Introduction
Animal testing, a synonym to animal experimentation, animal research, as well as in vivo testing, has the reference to the application of the animals that are non-humans for the purpose of experiments. A rough estimate of between fifty to as high as 100 million animals of the vertebrate class all over the world are put in application for the purpose of experiments. These includes the zebras fish as well as the other primates that are non-humans which are used on annual basis. However, a larger number of the invertebrates are in application together with the utilization of flies together with the worms for the purpose of acting as the model organisms, a situation that has been proved to be significantly important. The experiments that involve the utilization of the invertebrates are usually unregulated and their statistics are hardly taken in to consideration majority of the animals are usually euthanized at the end of their application in the course of the experiments. There is a variation of the available sources with respect to the laboratory animals based on the countries as well as species. Majority of the animals have been bred specifically for the purpose while majority of the rest of the animals are usually obtained from the wild or given by some dealers who have the potential of getting the animals from the ounds or even from auctions (Karen,134-54).
The available data indicates that each year is associated with a subjection of a large number of animals to pains that are unimaginable, cases of confinement as well as deaths that occur in the laboratories in every part of the wolrd. The experimentation with the use of animals also refers to vivisection is a common occurrence all over. The contrary of this implies that in the context of the majority of the companies, the hospitals, universities in addition to the rest of the organizations are equipped with research facilities as well as testing facilities which usually facilitate the conduction of their experiments. The application of animals has become a norm in the field of academia including fields such as biology, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, dissections, and classes of psychology, vivisection as well as the rest of the exploitative practices involving the use of animals as experiment objects
It is important to appreciate the fact there is a close similarity between the animals and the humans so as to determine the usefulness of t he experiments as well as the justification of the use of the animals as the test subjects that are none consenting. It is also important ot consider the justification of of the use of the animals which bears the capacity of detecting the pain that is associated with the treatments for the experiments as well as the pleasure for the achievements of the goals. Through the experiments, there are tendencies of forcing the animals to swallow substances that are toxic, posses tumors that are grown in their bodies in a deliberate manner. Their skins as well as the eyes are burned with chemicals that are irritant; some electrodes are usually implanted in to the skulls of the animals. They are also deprived the rights of accessing food as well as sleep, they are forced to endure tests of irradiation as well as being made to suffer some electric shocks. All these treatments are unethical as they should never be justified for the purpose of experiments (Karen,71-79). This is a similar scenario as is the case with Stem Cell Research as is applicable in the case of humans. According to the majority of the pro-lifers, the qualification of the ovum as well as spermatozoon to a human life takes place during the process of fertilization. The killing of the embryo therefore for the purpose of extraction of the stem cells is therefore regarded as homicide and they consequently oppose research of this nature.
It is quite unfortunate that the animals have found their application for the purpose of research dealing with biomedical, in the military investigations, in the testing of the drugs as well as cosmetics, psychological experimentation as well as education basically as tools of experiments. These animals have all the potentials associated with the detection of the pain associated with the crude treatments. This has the implication that there no reason behind denying of the harm that are caused by the experimentation procedures to the sufferers. In a similar manner of practices that apply the involvement of the non-human animals, there is a reflection of vivisection for a view indicating that the animals are things as well as resources that are at the disposal of application for the purpose of the achieving of the goals of the humans imputed on the logic that the animals are non-humans. Majority of the application of the animals that usually occur in the laboratories like the testing of the weapons as well as cosmetics are not justified and there is a need to ban them (Chris, 56-87).
The animals that are used for the purpose of research are walss that are protective to the health of the humans. The routine that they usually undergo involves cutting them open, poisoning them follwed by caging them for a number of weeks, several months or even a number of years. In some of the situations, the animals are exposed to diseases for the purpose of identification of the effectiveness of a drug or the determination of the side effects of the drugs. In other cases, researchers kill the animals for the purpose of the determination of the extent of damage in the bodies of the animals. There are instances where rabbits as well as baby cats are usually alienated away from their mothers. This action is actually immoral and there is a need to turn around the issues of this nature. More than three million of the animals are reported to undergo death on an annual basis as a result of their use in research according to the data in the UK while the figure is as high as 115 million in the United States (Chris, 114-67). For every three records, there is a record of a death of an animal as a result of its use for the purpose of research. The governments as well as the researchers never care about the deaths of these animals and therefore the number could bee even high than the records
The reason why the governments are less concerned about the deathat is attributed to money issues. In all the concerned fields, the use of animals for the purpose of research has developed in to an industry associated with a coat of shinning gold. There is a need for the identification of alternative means of research since the use of animals for this purpose is cruel, unnecessary as well as inhuman
