Apple Computers: I-Pad 2, Research Paper Example
Steve Jobs was not only an innovator, he changed the way we look, interact and think about technology. He took technology from the realm of nerds in Silicon Valley to a mass market. Computers were once clunky ugly contraptions in the past. While indeed Microsoft made them user friendly, apple made them a fashionable functional device, after revolutionizing the look of computers.
Apple Computers change the world with a monumental event the launch of a device so ingenious. All of her competitors wished they thought about it. Apple introduced to the world a whole new category of technology that was hither to unheard of the Tablet. One and half years ago the I Pad did not exist. Today there are over fifteen million I Pads around the world. This paper pays homage to Steve Jobs by reviewing the I Pad 2. To the man the genius and by his own words a very public failure. May we all be as public a failure as he was?
The I Pad 2 follows one of Apples cardinal rules of design. The upgrade of any device is likely to be lighter, thinner and faster than its predecessor. The I Pad 2 measures 7.31 by 9.5 by 0.34 inches and it is 16 inches narrower, thinner and .06 inches shorter. Its weight allows you to hold it for extended periods of time. However it still needs a desk after a while. The good news is the price is exactly the same as the original $499 (16GB), $599 (32GB), and $699 (64GB).
Apple is not very big on talking about what hardware it has but what it can do. That said it is sporting the Brand new A5 which is a 1GHz dual core processor. The display is exactly the same as its predecessor which is a 1024 x 768, 9.7-inch IPS display. This is actually a bit disappointing. With the new processing power one would have expected the IPS display to at least be doubled or at the very least be significantly being increased. By looking at its 512MB of RAM and 200MHz bus speed it adds credence to the point as it is double the original. So why not double the display capabilities.
On the software front the I Pad2 has done it again. Its Safari’s JavaScript engine great improvement is credited to iOS 4.3. When the second tablet was launched it came with 65000 applications. With these great improvements in speed the battery life would be expected to suffer. Its physical reduction in size has not affected battery life. It lasts a whooping 10 hours 30 minutes, which is an hour more than the I Pad 1 and two hours more than its nearest rival the Motorola Xoom.
In conclusion the I Pad 2 is a resounding success not only in technical ability and agility but also what one can do with it. With death of its founder Steve Jobs. The apple range of products had already achieved in his lifetime icon status. In his death he was eulogized around the world from people from all walks of life who had one thing in common the apple brand which achieved what no other technology company had done before it. It is best summed up in a saying ‘once you go Mac you never go back,’ a play on the infamous saying once you go black you never go back.
