Being a nurse, she knew she had to do something, and that she could do something more, but being a daughter, she is bound to follow what her father says. Being the daughter she hopes to be depended upon by her father, she follows the decision of the family. Even though ending up a little bit unconvinced with her decision, the results later on reveals that she was right in following her daughter-intuition.

Critical illness among parents is something unpredictable and unwanted at the same time. The condition of thinking that it requires an individual to develop according to the situation that he needs to face. In the article, the daughter, who is also a nurse, is somewhat caught in the middle of a dilemma that questions both her position as a member of the family and as healthcare attendant who is expected to give attention to the technical operations of medical treatments that she needs to provide her father with. Regarding this, the author of the article points out: “A nurse struggles with medical decision making for her ailing father”; true, the dilemma couldbe emotionally and mentally pressuring.

In the field of medicine, this dilemma occurs especially when medical attendants become the individuals who are assigned to handle the cases of their loved ones. This is why it is very important that nurses and other medical staff be kept away from such cases as they are likely to think indecisively about the matter thus making a distinct impact on how they are to decide on the condition of their loved ones and their oath to provide extensive care to their patients without partiality.

Given the choice, nurse or daughter, you always a daughter first – but the nurse in you knows too much.” This line attests to the fact that when it comes to dealing with impossible situations, the familial instinct of an individual remains intact as the primary source of motivation for the creation of the decision to be accomplished. It is the instance when a decision has already been made that the dilemma lightens up; nevertheless, it does not fade away immediately.
