Every leader has to have certain attributes in order to lead his or her team. Lead clinical staff are no exception to this rule. These individuals must have organizational skills, decision-making abilities, quick responses to conflict, the ability to delegate projects, ethical principles, morality, time-management skills, communication skills, and the ability to motivate others. Lead clinical staff have to be organized in many different ways in order to lead their staff. They have to be able to keep paperwork and their particular staff organized. In addition, it is important for them to be able to know how to make decisions based on emergencies, placement, and patients. In this, they have to be quick in their responses to conflict so that situations do not get out of hand. Lead clinical staff must be able to delegate projects to others on their shifts in order to keep the shift running smoothly and efficiently. The Lead clinical staff cannot be responsible for all tasks to be done during that shift and must learn to trust his or her team to help get tasks completed. Ethical principles and morality are probably two of the most important aspect of leadership for Lead clinical staff. These individuals must make decisions where ethics is of most importance. Their ability to lead their team with dignity and morality is very important as this helps avoid lawsuits, raises the morale of the company, and gives their team a person to admire. Time-management and communication skills are also very important. Lead clinical staff need to know how to manage their time in order for tasks to be accomplished and for the shift to run smoothly. In addition, communication skills are key for any leader. A leader must be able to communicate effectively with his or her staff in order for every person to be on the same page and in order for them to understand what the lead clinical staff want out of them. Finally, the ability to motivate one’s team is of utmost importance. A leader has to be able to motivate his or her team in order for them to have a passion for what they are doing, in order for them to respect their leader, and in order for them to continue wanting to do their jobs in an ethical, caring ability.
