The life of a child is affected by ASD in various ways. The child experiences difficulties in communication, and impairment in skills of socialization. ASD children make less eye contact with people whenever they are addressing them, and they always appear emotional. In some cases, the children are misunderstood and are in most cases seen as stubborn because they are mostly less repetitive and imaginative.

The diagnosis can affect the family of the child in numerous ways. Firstly, the child requires the attention of the family members since he or she has special needs. In terms of expenses, the family has to finance the speech, occupational and physical therapy of the child. In additional, the family has to acquire enough funds to cater for the residential programs, intensive intervention at an early age, dental and mental care among others. In the same vein, parents experience anger, confusion, and rejection from the society.

The academic success of the child is affected in numerous ways because he or she can barely follow instructions. The delayed response to instruction affects the cognitive abilities making it difficult to comprehend tasks in school. Since the child cannot focus on a person, speaking, it is difficult to face the learners while being given instructions. In school, the child can hardly contribute in group discussions, and is always quarreling with fellow students.

Autism has strengths and benefits associated with it.
