Autobiography: International School, Essay Example

Essay

The decision to go to an international school was not an easy one for me to make. I was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, and I spent the first fifteen years of my childhood there. For many of those years I expected to complete my education there, but as I made my way through middle school I began to develop an interest in the larger world. In 2008, after completing middle school, I moved to Shanghai where I completed by high school education. My interest in the world continued to grow, and I used my time in Shanghai to attend an international school that would prepare me for life after high school.  While attending this school I was able to enroll in A-level courses, and the education I received there gave me the confidence to make the biggest decision of my life: to travel abroad to attend university. I feel fortunate to have been accepted to the school I now attend, and I have chosen to focus my studies on Psychology.

I can still recall when I first developed an interest in Psychology, well before the time I left for university. In my high school years I worked at a bank, and it was there that I first began to cultivate my skills at reading and decoding body language and human behavior. I worked I the sales department, a job which required me to interact with people constantly and to get them interested and enthusiastic about the bank’s products and services. I can still recall my very first customer: she was a well-dressed, middle-aged woman with a conservative personality and demeanor. Even then I recognized that some people are conservative by nature where investments are concerned, and she immediately struck me as someone who would be risk-averse. I quickly decided to recommend National Debt as an investment opportunity, as it was low-risk with a small but guaranteed return, and was more stable than some other investments. The woman quickly agreed with me about this choice, and made her purchase. While this may seem like a mono0r event, it was this interaction that spurred my interest in Psychology. I had an innate understanding of how Psychology as a field of study intersected with my natural affinity for reading and understanding human behavior. This interest in Psychology inspired me to seek an education in the field, and I am happy to say that the experience of learning about Psychology in the classroom has been even more interesting and rewarding than I could have imagined.
