Research Paper

Major Description and Reasons for Its Choice

My major or area of interest is Applied Psychology. This bachelor’s degree enables an individual to analyze the behavior and actions of a person effectively. I chose the major since it would help me advise people on proper ways of dealing with emotions and feelings and correct responses to various conflicting situations. Knowledge of applied psychology would also help me offer guidance and counseling to society and rehabilitate various people back to normal life.

Personal Interests

My interests are learning the behavior and lifestyle of other people and helping them live modestly and desirably. I also wish to solve challenging problems that intersect with human behavior. This is a pure psychological study of human behavior. Therefore, knowing an applied psychology major would help me pursue my interests properly. This is how my interests translate to a college major.

Types of Course Required

Some of the courses required in the study of applied psychology include but are not limited to the study of human development and metacognition (Huang et al., 2019). Human research and statistics course is also vital for analyzing the causal factors of human behavior. An organizational psychology course is also vital in this major. The most important course is guidance and counseling, where the psychiatrist can guide the client and help him/her walk the journey of recovery easily. Analytical thinking and communication are other courses required.

Types of Projects, Papers, and Assignments

Projects, papers, and assignments in an applied psychology major would be classified as either cognitive, behavioral, or psychological. The projects highlight clinical, evolutionary, industrial, counseling, and occupational health psychologies (Wang et al., 2020, p81). The assignments also cover the areas of sports, psychological engineering, and the human factors that affect behavior. Lastly, the papers would examine school psychology and offer forensic knowledge of analyzing psychological cases. These are the main areas of concern in the projects, papers, and assignments of the Applied Psychology major.

Difficulties of Applied Psychology

The study of applied psychology is tough and challenging. The course involves tough coursework and exams. The lectures are not easily understood and require careful attention and high-level reasoning for good comprehension. The practice offers a chance to practice the skills attained. A psychiatrist may also face diversity, communication, replication, and environmental issues during the studies and in the corporate sector. A person must deal with these to ensure they complete the major.

Pros and Cons

Some benefits of being an applied psychiatrist are that a person is guaranteed a job opportunity and a highly competitive salary. The course is highly rewarding and offers a chance to open a private sector for psychiatrist services. The course’s disadvantages are that one must pass through a vigorous long learning period and work during unsociable hours. A person is required to obtain state licenses through long, tedious procedures.
