In Bargaining For Advantage, G. Richard Shell provided the reader with the skills necessary to become better at negotiating and conflict resolution (Shell, 1999). The book is about 278 pages long. Overall, this book is designed to give the reader skills to help them get what they want from different situations. In the first few chapters of this book, the author teachers the reader how to prepare to select goals to be achieved as a result of the discussions. In addition, it is important to clearly state a purpose so the exact format of these negotiations could be decided. Overall, the book was helpful and provides the reader with many useful bargaining skills.

In addition to how to decide goals, determining how negotiation helps people achieve results is the subject of the book. Giving gifts is an important part of this process because it is the “universal language of human relationships”. Negotiations precede though a form of prudently cooperative communication. Overall, the book is beneficial because each chapter provides the reader with scenarios of real life people and how to conquer a negotiation with confidence. This book talked about ethics and figuring out how to bargain while using personal ethics and drives. Leverage was also discussed in addition to the balance of needs and fears.

Overall, this book really improves a person’s overall critical thinking and analysis of a situation or problem. Tools and skills can be used to improve oneself in negotiation and make them more confident as a person.
