Ethical theory covers all aspects of humanity both at the personal and at the social level. . In order to understand the different elements of ethical theory, it is important to understand the natures of morality as well as the ways in which one’s moral standards are assessed.

Some moral standards are personally invented. In this case, absolute subjectivism and emotivism are the best term to use. Ones tastes and preferences take precedence. Socially invented moral standards fall within the realm of cultural relativism. Discoverable moral standards may be absolute or contextual.

Within utilitarianism considerations, the right acts are those that bring about the greatest good to the highest number of people, although one need not abandon his self-interests. In deontological ethics, all acts are considered either wrong or right independent of the consequences. Only the inherent features of the act are considered. This element of moral theory is applicable in the workplace in order for conformity to the company’s regulations to be adhered to by all.

The nature of privacy is explained within the scope of rights-based ethics. In this case, the right may be natural or conventional; positive or negative. Privacy is every human being’s natural negative right in that it protects ones personal privacy without imposing any duties on him. If any duties were imposed, it could be a positive right.

Technology impacts on business in many ways, technologists have a conventional positive right of interfering with your business. In other words, their interference is pinned on certain responsibilities such as fair practices, and positive impact. Discrimination infringes on ones natural negative rights. Deontological elements of morality ought to be implemented in order to deal with gender or racial discrimination in the workplace.

In conclusion, all elements of ethical theory are important yardsticks of determining morality at the personal and at the social level.
