Pages: 1

Words: 369

Essay

Introduction

This excerpt is based on current events revolving around the 1% pay rise proposed to take effect by the U.S president for the military employees starting from the diplomats and other the military personnel. This paper will compare the proposed pay rise with the expected rate laid down in the United States Code (U.S.C) Title 37.

The president guided by the deficit commission which was set to propose effective measures for handling fiscal issues of the government, recently announced a pay rise of 1% for the military workers. The deficit commission was put in place to revise economic policies and to bolster the fiscal condition for medium and long term periods. The proposed pay rise of 1% for the military workers in the current law will see the salaries of military workers frozen (Steinhauer, & Jennifer 2013)

The deficit commission is aimed reducing the spending of the military department through significant reduction in spending while increasing taxes in equal measure. The effects of the proposal will see the military department reduce tax spending for income taxes and no resultant effect on the pay taxes. The recommendations will affect entire workforce of the military workforce (Steinhauer, & Jennifer 2013)

One specific element of Dime that is affected by the move is the Diplomatic element as more money will be saved to ensure that military operations in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq are facilitated to ensure the military can properly keep peace in those nations. The saved expenditure will enable the military to participate diplomatic peace keeping missions. (Hulse,& Carl 2013).

The pay structure for the military section in the US has been set to be in tandem with the private sector wage advancement and therefore the move may be taken lightly by law makers given the fact that some service men of the military are in combat in some countries like Afghanistan. The Employment Cost Index strives to eliminate the disparity between the pay index for military and that in the private sector and therefore the proposal should embrace the differences before its implementations.
