Battle of Waterloo, Essay Example

Essay

The Battle of Waterloo took place as spearheaded by Napoleon Bonaparte occurring a few kilometres in the southern part of the Brussels. Napoleon fought against the dukes who were under the command of wellington from Britain and Prussian general blucher. The defeat of Napoleon made him go exile and abdicate to Elba Island. His loss at the battle meant the end his remarkable career (iMinds 19).

The significance of the war has been highly debated. For example, the British claims that the battle ended the domination of Napoleon in Europe. However, others argue that the battle might just lead to another battle in the future. Napoleon had just left from exile, and he was trying to reconstitute his empire. He was planning to fight and rule France, but he faced an exceptionally strong coalition that opposed him. He had hopes that he could achieve apposition in France so that he could use his powers to sue for peace. All his ambitions were shuttered when he was defeated during the battle. The division of the allied and the Prussian armies signified the end of Napoleon Empire, which later restored the bourbon monarchy (Black 27)

The defeats of Napoleon led to the introduction of meritocracies and modern democracies that started to function. On the other hand, the battle also leads to the age of anti-colonialism and revolution.  Thereafter the principle of espousing was borrowed from American Revolution and the French. All the colonies around the globe were made independent and liberated from their colonial masters. Revolution in Central and South America and other parts of the world was introduced: it was not successful in some other places like the case of Lower and Upper Canada (iMinds 15).
