Behind the Issue of Global Warming, Research Paper Example

Introduction

Global warming; a phenomenon that has been the focus of environmentalists and community enthusiasts for more than a decade now, a matter of concern that people are highly alarmed about. True to its sense, due to several researches as well as documentaries, the assumption of the existence of global warming has been further established and defined which makes it a viable source of panic among several groups around the globe. For a fact, completing studies that further explore the possibilities of global warming and the impending effect it has on the world are continuously being discussed and examined for information validity and reliability as to how much the collected data do prove that global warming does exist and is affecting the life of individuals around the globe today. In this particular discussion, a presentation of several references that provide a constructive view of what global warming is, what its effects are and how much impact is it making in the economy shall be further examined.

Literature Review

Following the context of realism, scientist have first assumed the existence of global warming as an effect of the changing situation in the environment brought about by human and natural alterations that are occurring (Mazza, et al, 1999). Relatively, it is because of this particular assumptions that the introduction of several researches dedicated to finding out whether or not the scientific assumptions are real have been pursued. The concept of realism basically entails the condition by which the given situations at present are not only seen as the option of ‘now’ but the coming results that will define the future. To note, it has been a consistent purpose of the researches pursued to not only search for proof but to also establish alternative conditions of living that would be able to sustain life amidst the actual effects that global warming brings.

Using the argument of behavioralism, Thompson Allen’s (2009) study on the Responsibility for the End of Nature discuss the existence of global warming due to human attitude. In this study, he introduces the fact that as humans tend to embraces the different aspects of development and industrialization, they intend to exploit natural resources that are supposedly able to control the climate and retain its balance perfectly for the earth to be able to sustain life (79). The presentation of Allen shows how important it is for human behavior to be one of the elements to be examined when it comes to resolving issues of global warming. Notably though, Daniel Botkin’s (2010) writing on the capacity of biodiversity to withstand climate changes through adaptation intends to go against the threats that Allen suggests in his study. Considerably, he argues that because living creatures are highly adaptable to their environment and its systems, they have the capacity to be individually sustainable considering their character of being consistently adaptive of the situations they are engaged in. Relating to this case, Botkin tries to utilize the assumption of the situation through the hypothetico-deductive model which insists on the fact that while several facts may be considered acceptable, the possibility of them being altered and specifically affected by change could be assumed as somewhat weak making the prone for falsification. Using both established studies and research along with his personal knowledge and experiences, Botkin tries to create a picture that insists on the fact that living creatures have the capacity to adjust immediately to the condition of the environment they are involved in therefore suggesting that even though global warming does exist, the need to panic is not necessary. Instead, being able to redevelop the environment to help the other species survive is a much better option to take into consideration.

Italy, one of the most developed countries around the globe, holding a population of over 59,000, 000 regular residents, is now facing the challenge of actually having the need to consider different options of living that would allow them to survive the effects of global warming which is specifically experienced in their region. Klaus Globel’s (1994) study on the impact of global warming on the regular pattern of living among residents of Italy reports that urban stability has actually been affected by the emergence of climate change, one of the resulting impacts of global warming, in several areas of the country. People are trying to get over the situation through migrating from their original places to another. The aspect of economic stability that most people want to achieve moves a lot of residents towards the urbanized areas of the country. However, because of the emergence of global warming, Italy’s administration hopes to diver the flow of population from the urban areas towards the rural lands so as to reduce the pollution emission and the development of low-end living conditions among those who seemingly cannot be supported by the scarce resources that are directed to the urban areas.

Roberto Fentechi’s (et al, 1995) presentation on the administrative efforts in Italy shows how the government tries to resolve the issue through transferring scarce resources to support populated areas. Residents who are situated in urban areas are considered to have a great impact on how the city’s capacity to support new alternative routes to urban living. This is the reason why the distribution of residents on the highly populated areas is being reprogrammed. This procedure is considered to have a great impact on the manner by which the city tries to reestablish its natural defense to the incurring situations brought about by the emergence of global warming. Herein, the author points out the need of Italy to receive whatever help are provided by the international convention. Following the new assumptive measures considered in the international aspect of facing the effects of global warming, Italy needs to adjust its culture of structural establishments, its culture of consumption and its culture of engaging in highly industrialized procedures that are dedicated to bring about huge changes in the city for the sake of embracing modern living.

Meanwhile, the First Italian National Communication to the Framework Convention on Climate Change documentation released by the Ministry (1995) specifically examines the different preemptive measures that are being applied in the city to enable it to become more effective in facing the challenges of global warming through reducing green house emissions in the city. This documentation entails to present the need to specifically adjust the lifestyle of the people. Relatively, this could actually affect the economic standing of the city and how it is able to relate to national GDP revenues. Hence, the documentation imposes that there is a need to consider balance in making sure that the people are able to adapt to the situation while still retaining the economic stability of the city.

Hypothesis or Proposition

Based on the discussion presented herein, it could be analyzed that the real problem is not on the condition of proving whether or not global warming is existing. Considering the different options of development that cities like Italy are taking into consideration, the natural makeup of the environment needs to be given attention to especially when it comes to dealing with different options of development. For this research then, it is proposed that the hypothesis be based on this particular thought;

Global warming does exist and its effects are being felt in both urban and rural areas [specifically in Italy]. Dealing with the problem involves a specific focus on how lifestyle and operations of development are in need of being altered without necessarily hurting the economy’s overall standing. This could only happen if the administration and its people would be able to cooperatively collaborate in embracing new ways of living conditions.

This hypothesis shall be given attention to in the process of completing the research on global warming specifically directed to the conditions it implies in Italy.
