Ben Franklin, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 506

Essay

We live in a world where resources are often scarce as compared to the issues and challenges. Some are so huge in magnitude and complexity that even governments lack the courage to tackle them. The most sensible and obvious response in such scenarios will simply be to do nothing or be immovable as Ben Franklin would say, but when I study the history of America, I realize that one of the keys to the greatness of this nation is the fact that there have always been a significant number of people within its boundaries that are ‘movable’ for a greater cause. But the best-kept secret about this nation is its ability to produce more sons and daughters that move the world, as compared to other nations. This is why I also aspire to be one of those Americans who move the world, because I have realized the importance of ‘self-believe’ and ‘taking action’.

I have always enjoyed reading biographies of people who have changed the world in a significant way, and one of the common themes I noticed among them was that they all had their fair share of doubters. However, these successful individuals knew that they could not fully discover their true potential unless they tried, and they also knew that those who prefer the uncharted territories shape history. I admire Bill Gates as much, if not more, for his courage to take on some of the greatest global health challengesas his achievements in the computer industry. Similarly, I admire Steve Jobswhowas not afraid to challenge literally every conventional wisdom in leadership and management to build the most valuable brand in the world and never let failures define him.

I have always been ahigh honor roll student in high school but I also actively pursued co-curricular activities. My friends often wondered how I had time for academics, sports, and extracurricular, but I would always tell them that if there is not time for everything then I will make time because a problem doesn’t need an excuse but a solution. I joined many clubs and volunteered at various organizations with the intention of gaining new skills and enhancing self-confidence so that I am prepared to tackle even greater challenges in the real world.

I want to move the world just as Steve Jobs wanted to make a dent in the universe. I read somewhere that almost 100 billion people have born since the beginning of mankind but billions of ‘immovable’ and ‘movable’ people are virtually unknown to us while few thousand individuals who moved the world, continue to inspire generations after generations. Einstein called compounding the most powerful thing in the universe and it seems to apply to ‘movers’ among us, too. Einstein has long been gone but there are hundreds of thousands of souls that aspire to be Einstein and one day same will be true for Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as well. People who move the world are like stars that continue to shine brightly for almost eternity and I want to be one such ‘star’, too.
