Research Paper

The Romans had their own religion which was not based on any central belief, rather they based it on a mixture of fragmented taboos, rituals, traditions and superstitions they collected from various sources over the years. The Romans religion had a little spiritual experience compared to contractual relationship between the forces believed to guide existence and well being of people and mankind. The  attitudes of such religion resulted into private concern whereby  the role of the head of a family was to oversees prayers and domestic rituals just like peoples representatives performed public ceremonies It also resulted in  a state cult, which had  significant influence on military and  political and events http://www.iun.edu/~hisdcl/h113_2001/christianity1.htm .

When Christianity started there was little resistance to it as the religion had very little influence or power as well as being a largely unknown religion. This attitude however changed with time and the first Christian persecution began with Nero’s bloody repression which occurred in AD 64. Much as many see this as a rash sporadic repression it is counted as the most known so far. The ensuing persecution led the Christians to spread all over the empire and thereby carrying with them the message of Christianity and spreading it around resulting in the spread of Christianity.

The other benefits include the fact that the Roman empire being widespread with a huge geographical coverage gave the Christians a good communication network enabling them have a wide reach and thereby network well within themselves as well as reach new converts. The growing Christian church also copied the government systems of the Roman Empire in developing a church structure. Finally the Roman Empire helped Christianity in that they had established a system of security which made the Christians enjoy security as they traveled within the empire to spread the religion http://www.roman-empire.net/religion/religion.html.
