Essay

In all the three projects designed and established by the members in the three teams were to solve various problems, which affect people in the community. In team three the project is about the building of additional storey to Mayo Clinic, which will accommodate more patients and offer extensive medical services. Team 1 project is about connection of a converter station, which will help to address the rising demand of power supply and bolster the power supply grid in the society. Team 2 is working on a project about revitalization of the Municipal Building such that it can offer favorable environmental and working conditions to people working in the building. Members in my team, which is team three observed various things about projects the other teams are working. Bradley observed what was taking place in team two project and had some comments about the observation. As per the objective of the project, it was very important because it would assist to solve power problems affecting people in the community. The team member observed that the budget allocated to the project in team 2 was fixed. It would not allow any changes or adjustments to be made in case of any additional requirements. The budget will limit the project, and it might not meet the required standards. The budget should have been open and adjustable to accommodate any changes or additions in the course of the project.

Myriam observed the project in team one is prone to power outrages because it will be relying on the only converter station in the south. Various functions in the course of the project will be disrupted in case of any power outrages. The management of the project should have ensured that there is additional power converter satiation such that in case of any power outrage, it would be used as a backup. Since the project needs continuous power supply, there should be ready backup that will be opted to avoid wastage of time and disruption of operations. The project has a fixed timeline, which is August 2018, and the project will not be completed on a set time if power outrages are frequently experienced. The time set will elapse before the project is completed. In addition, Myriam observed that the Siemens’ future HVDC core technology will not be used in the team one project. It is because the time limit of the project will lapse before the core technology is implemented. The current core technology will be applied in the course of the project, and the new trends and innovations of HVDC will be enjoyed in the course of the project.

Adrian, who is a member of team 3, observed what taking place in team two project. Adrian observed that the revitalization process would be limited to Municipal Building because it will not cover other areas of the Dudley Square vicinity. For example, additional commercial retail places or public housing will not be covered with revitalization process. It would have been better if the revitalization process covered other public places such that people around the Municipal Building would enjoy the services of revitalization. Adrian observed that strict rules were offered before revitalization process was started. All the improvements to be made in the process of revitalization would be made within the time and budgetary constraints of the project charter and plan. The budgeted funds will be utilized for all the improvements because no funds would be added in case of any deficit in the process of revitalization. For the project to be considered approved and complete, it should be reviewed and inspected by the Project Manager and the Project Sponsor. The building will not be occupied before being inspected and reviewed to ensure that its revitalization is up to the required standards. In the case of any renovation, the scope of the project will not entail the ongoing maintenance of the municipal building.

From the class meeting and discussion, all the team benefited. It is because in the discussion team members with different professional knowledge and skills participated in offering ideas and opinions about the three projects. The ideas and opinions would be of great importance to the team members because they would implement them in their projects. The ideas and opinions would be implemented in correcting any mistakes or making improvements in the project. For example, in team one, they were advised to have an addition power converter, which will be used in case the only power converter in the south fails in the course of the project. Team one members learned that they should have submitted environmental protection plans to Manitoba Conservation and Clean Environment Commission before starting the project. It would help to save time because they would not stop the operations such that they could consult the respective authorities. It would also help them to meet the set time limit since they would not waste time in the course of the project. Team 2 realized that they should have extended revitalization process to cover the neighboring commercial retail spaces and public housing. It would help the neighboring public to enjoy the fruits of the revitalization process.

In my understanding, the discussion was important to all the members from different teams. It is because all the team members were professionals in different fields and thy would advise and correct each other in case of mistake in the course of the project. The members’ reaction to the questions during the discussion indicated that they had better understanding on project establishment and implementation. In addition, the organization of their respective projects proved their understanding on different project designs. The outline of the project scope was also an indication better understanding. All the project scopes had the title, objectives, major deliverables, dates and milestones, limits, technical requirements and customer sign off. All these are components that should be incorporated on the project.
