Bullying in Healthcare, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 333

Essay

Bullies in a healthcare office or environment are especially troublesome. Doctors and physicians are acquainted with the old idea of the “disruptive medical practitioner” and the Joint Commission’s up to date models on averting and correcting “behaviors that undermine a culture of safety” (Schat, 2011). If for whatever reason a bully persists in an office, work is not being completed productively and a lack of effective communication amongst employees and bosses is enduring. These unfortunate results of bullying in healthcare make providers’ offices significantly more likely to encounter adverse occasions and patient disappointment. Bullies additionally use a great deal of the workday participating in the tormenting instead of doing the work they were hired to do. The tormented worker uses his or her time and vitality choosing how to react to the bully, whether to approach the boss, and whether to quit his or her job (Schat, 2011). Ultimately, the bully makes an enormous misfortune of profit for the office. The bully is essentially taking cash out of the pocket of the healthcare institution and is overall a detrimental asset to the corporation.

This article does seem to be credible on several fronts. For one, it is a scholarly journal that has been cited dozens of times in print and online. Many scholars and authors that have written work regarding the topic of bullying in healthcare have cited to Aaron Schat and Michael Frone’s article. On a related point, both Schat and Frone are credible sources themselves. Dr. Schat is a PhD holder, as is Dr. Frone, and both authors teach in education institutions mainly pertaining to psychology and business. Finally, in taking a look at the text, it is difficult to argue against their premises regarding the result of workplace bullying in healthcare. All in all, this seems to be a very credible article.
