Essay

Introduction

Grandfather, when you were manager of your company XYZ many years ago most of the manufacturing and servicing was conducting domestically where pricing was competitive but vendors and suppliers were from the local areas and distributors were mostly from the United States. Managers like me today have the authority and ability to use global sources to manufacture products which enables us to recommend the purchase products at a much cheaper price and distribute them to consumers at a better value thus increasing volume and the bottom line.

Body of Paper

Our company ABC has a home office in North Carolina which helps us to service customers throughout the United States, Europe, Africa and the United Emirates. Our manufacturing facility and warehouse is located in Raleigh, North Carolina where circuit boards are assembled for other manufacturers and then shipped to various customers at their final destination. Our responsibilities are to produce a quality product according to ASTM methods, send it through quality inspection, package it and send it directly to the customers. My shipping department must track all packages through either Federal Express or USPS shipping interstate or DHS for international shipping. The customer pays for shipping costs. We guarantee all of our work.

My job is to ensure all products that are shipped meet our vision statement and pass quality inspection according to what each individual customer desires. Our products are made the same but sometimes a certain customer will require an additional component to be added to their transducer for specific purposes. In this case the transducer gets sent to the specialty research and development team and I have to inspect and test the product before it is sent out. Our goal is to accommodate all cultural need for electronic transducers so that they do not feel forced to order from within their country or feel forced to order from our competitors.

In order to ensure we meet the foreign customer’s specifications we conduct thorough research on each foreign company to find out what they will be using the product for and find out the regulations and laws of their country with respect to application of the transducers. Of course once the transducer leaves our warehouse the customer is free to use the transducer as they wish.

“Since we do not manufacture a product and only assemble, inspect and ship for other companies, we are able to concentrate on building the best available product for any company.” (“Global Manufacturing Services, Inc.”). Our company essentially takes the parts a distributor supplies to us, assembles it, runs it through advanced quality assurance systems, packages it and drops it right at the doorstep of the distributor’s customer.

Grandpa, this is the new technology of business service and manufacturing of today. There is less costs involved because the overhead is reduced, less liability because of the less overhead and greater value in our profits because we can assemble and distribute more products in a more effective manner. This is a repetitive business with some customers so we can put out many products in a swift manner. The new innovative customers sometimes desire new product trends and we are eagerly ready to meet their demands.

My job is constantly changing because I employ Americans and other culturally diversified people to help me at the plant however they all add wisdom and knowledge to help keep the business profitable and efficient. I enjoy the changing environment day by day. Reaching out to a global community can be challenging at the same time stressful but definitely can make a business successful. Growth is often scary and with growth comes change but if I keep good workers that are adaptable and dependable as in the days you managed large companies we will be successful. We are simply adding a global world to our ventures which are a positive addition because we can utilize what the overseas customers have to offer to the business as well as what the overseas manufacturers have to offer in terms of cheaper products to lower the costs to the distributors who send work to us.

“To date about 40% of our investors are from foreign countries. These investments have added to our profit margin this year by 20%. Foreign investment can add substantial growth in the arenas of demand for manufacturing in both developing and already developed countries.” (“IFC Global Management and Services”).

Conclusion

Global manufacturing and services is the key to sustainable growth in today’s competitive business challenges. Top service companies such as Deloitte are both functional and specific industry related and that key performance has helped them to gain respect and revenue through the complex challenges of a global world. Often consultants are brought in to help manage large companies such as IBM Global to ensure they are meeting and exceeding the expectations of the global communities.
