Essay

Positive and negative impact of outsourcing in my organization/country

Outsourcing is modern/contemporary business terminology most applied in United States of America and is highly recognized for its transferability of assets in the form of human resources across business and countries. One example of positive impacts of outsourcing within a country and organization is filling of nursing shortages during the HIV/AIDS out break during the early 1990s and late 1980’s. Many American trained nurses left their jobs due to fear of being infected. Departments of health and private hospital organizations with permission from the immigration services (USCIS) and government began a massive recruitment of nurses of Caribbean nurses.

While they had to be recertified by passing the NCLEX foreign nurses examination along with their nursing credentials validated by CGFNS they were a savior to the acute nursing shortage during the crisis. After the 9/11 incident when every foreigner was scrutinized as a terrorist many of their contracts were terminated in lieu of intensifying nurse training locally.

A negative impact of outsourcing can be detected in work exchange programs between/among organizations and countries. Since outsourcing deals mainly with transferring assets in the form of human resources/ skills, this exchange often depletes the organization/country of the skill or human resource being exchanged for a period of time, while analysts perceive the process as a being gainful. Importantly, every organization/country has a culture of operation. People and skills transfer culture. When there is a transfer between a developed and developing country an incompatibility in functioning could occur, which is more detrimental to the organization/country’s progress in the particular exchange field. When people return to their place of origin, they unconsciously bring the exchange culture into their organization. This creates incompatibility and even confusion in the environment.
