There are many different types of business systems that exist within each economic framework. Within each business system, there are many perceived shortcomings that exist. These perceptions are viewed from the players within the business system, such as the managers, employees, customers and shareholders, while there are also different perceptions held by external individuals that have no direct stake in the success or failure of the business system, such as news reporters and academic professionals. In order to understand the true nature of these perceived shortcomings, it is important to examine them from the appropriate source by which the perceptions are coming from.
First of all, business systems can have perceived shortcomings from the internal staff that utilize them. The individuals that are closest to the systems likely have the greatest insight on the flaws of the business system. For instance, a manager should be able to perceive the areas of weakness that must be improved to increase efficiency. Business systems are meant to function like clockwork, but they do not always work in this manner. Employees can often be the greatest source of business system shortcomings. Employees take shortcuts in the works and may not perform every required step to the requirements of the company or management. Business systems may also have shortcomings that stem from a lack of resources or poor quality of equipment. A manufacturing company must have the best equipment in order to ensure that the quality of its products remains high. Those individuals that work for the internal staff of the company would likely be able to see these potential shortcomings, or they may also serve as a direct cause of the shortcomings.
The next perception viewpoint for shortcomings in business systems comes from external sources. These sources can be external auditors, customers or anyone else that is outside the company and does not have a direct stake in the successes or failures of the organization. The shortcomings that these individuals perceive for business systems are slightly different than those of internal sources. For instance, customers are able to notice poor customer service or can be turned off by inadequate sales techniques. An auditor can examine the poor financial shortcomings of a company. Meanwhile, a health inspector should be able to examine the cleanliness of the building or any other assets. These are all important perceptions and can directly impact the company’s reputation or its ability to effectively function in a competitive economy. These internal and external perceptions are important to understand and business systems can fail as a direct cause of these perceived shortcomings.
There are several steps that business systems and management personnel should take in order to ensure a quality working environment that increases efficiency and reduces perceived shortcomings. For instance, management can utilize several different control methods to ensure that internal staffing errors are reduced or eliminated while also working to provide a protection for current assets. Strict policies must be developed to provide management and employees with key activities to reduce business system shortcomings and potential sources for errors. Meanwhile, it is highly recommended that organizations hire external consultants or auditors to examine the financial, physical and organizational health of a company. These evaluations work to reduce business system inefficiencies, lack of government code adherence and identifying internal errors that may impact external perceptions before they become major issues.
