Business Writing Platforms, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 285

Essay

Memos, faxes. Emails, IMs, and blogs each represent different types of communication platforms and documents used in the workplace, and each is suitable for different purposes. They have all come into use in the past few decades, as electronic communication has replaced standard letters as the primary method of delivering messages and business-related content.  The first of these forms of communication was the fax, and it is still in use for the purpose of sending and receiving official documents and other forms of correspondence that require a physical document. For most business correspondence, the email platform is suitable, and is probably the most common method of communication in the business world.

For brief messages, or messages that must be sent and received quickly, instant messaging (IM) is also used in the workplace. Memos typically contain information that must be shared within departments or across entire organizations, and can be sent as emails or, when necessary, as physical documents. Blogs (a term that is short for “weblogs”) represent a common way to share information with the public, and are used by news media, private businesses, and other organizations. While each of these different communication platforms has its place, the one I use most commonly both for personal correspondence and for school-related correspondence is email. It is a fast and convenient way to communicate, and it allows messages to be easily stored and retrieved as necessary. Email has the functionality of sending regular mail, while avoiding the necessity of storing and filing physical copies of documents. I have used most of these forms of communication at different times, but email remains the one that I use most frequently and expect to use the most in future business writing.
