Describe what you do in your current position, including your goals and challenges.

Currently, I am a legal researcher in one of the law companies within the city. I like this profession because it has molded my critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills through a smaller firm, but I can apply the skills I have gained to serve as the cabinet. My long-term goal is to serve as a cabinet, which will expose and equip me with skills to practice self-control and discipline to enable me to own my law firm in the future. However, my major challenge is changing culture in my current locality away from my own culture.

Describe any previous professional or academic experience that may pertain to this survey.

While studying at LLB, I was able to use my criminal law knowledge to educate youths and became a co-founder of peace associations in the university. As a former lawyer, I have dealt with numerous cases and participated in mediation and arbitration cases, the skills which are enough to serve as a cabinet. While in my second year, I contributed to establishing an organizational legislation Law Student Association that still operates; thus, I will bring change to the cabinet.

Describe a previous extended professional, personal or academic project that you genuinely enjoyed working on.

In my previous employment, I was assigned to draft legislation for the sub-state assembly. As an intern, I borrowed ideas and confidence through engaging with professionals regarding drafting, organizational laws and policy and application of constitutionals laws.The project went as expected, and I will always be proud of the success.

What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

My greatest strength is the ability to learn quickly, adapt to the environment, and easily relate with colleagues that we aim to achieve a common goal. However, my greatest weakness in my career is that I am always strict in upholding and observing the rule of law to ensure promotion of justice and maintaining professionalism standards.

Explain what you think are the three most pressing challenges faced by the Cabinet in the short to medium term?

The major problem facing the cabinet is;

  1. The lack of willingness to provide services as requested.
  2. Lack of accountability in most offices.
  3. Inconsistencies of rules and regulations.
  4. Formulation of Covid-19 legislations.
  5. Updating legislations due to urgency

Why are you interested in this fellowship?

With my skills, experience, and determination to improve and take my career to the next level, this fellowship will help me achieve the long term goals. The fellowship will help me get acquainted with laws operation in the public sector, contribute to addition of law practices in the career and help me develop national and international agreements. Since I have been working in private sector, it will help me merge private and public sector experiences outcomes leading to sustainability development of the economy and prosperity.
