Numbers of qualified candidates from all MBA schools in Canada
There are approximately 40 Canadian universities offering MBA programs. The universities are located on various provinces within the country. These include Alberta, Manitoba British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec among others. The MBA universities offer an array of MBA programs in various disciplines or area of specialization. These include Financial Management, Management Accounting (CMA), and International Development Management, Accounting, Marketing, Management and Change, Business Administration and Economics among others. Generally the Canadian education system is recognized worldwide hence giving the graduates an upper hand in the labor market (Canadian Business, 2012). The universities are accredited and their curriculum offers very competent training and such makes the universities highly recognized worldwide.
Despite the recent opinions raised on the media that MBA recruitment is going down, there was a very strong evidence from 57% of the schools that undertook the research that new companies were still recruiting MBA students at very high rates. For this reason, there is a likelihood of students pursuing this course getting good employment in the labor market. Consequently, the candidates still have a wide variety of choices since MBA is universal and apply in many careers.
The number of students likely to graduate in the year 2013 is approximately 9543. This figure constitutes the numbers provided by the universities as show in the table below.

Total | 9543 |
From the above distribution table, the York University contributes the largest number of candidates. Followed by the Laval University, and the least number contributed by Simon Fraser university which has only 53 candidates. The high figures reveal that more and more people are continuously registering for the MBA courses since they believe the labor market has lots of things in store for them (Brennan, 2010, pg 13).
In terms of percentage the following is the number and percentage contributed by each of the provinces.
Province | Number of candidates | Percentage |
Alberta | 785 | 8.27 % |
British Columbia | 601 | 6.30 % |
Manitoba | 116 | 1.22 % |
New Brunswick | 454 | 4.76 % |
new found land/Labrador | 159 | 2.30 % |
Nova Scotia | 397 | 4.16 % |

Quebec | 2543 | 26.65 % |
Saskatchewan | 127 | 1.33 % |
Total | 9543 | 100 % |
From the above data, Ontario province has the highest number of MBA graduates 2013 with a percentage of 45.01. They are followed by Quebec which has 26.65 percent; the two are dominants and constitutes the highest percentage of the total number. The other provinces contributed but in low numbers. The information above can be represented in a pie chart as shown below.
From the pie chart, Ontario province has the largest percentage of graduates. It has the largest pie followed by Quebec province, then Alberta and British Columbia provinces respectively.
Bar graph showing the number of candidates against the provinces in Canada
The indication on the graph and the pie chart reveal a totally new idea about people’s perception of the MBA programs. Recent reports by the Canadian academic press revealed that the number of companies’ currently hiring MBA graduates has slightly gone down in the US and only upcoming companies of less than one year old are currently hiring. The results herein slightly contradict the statement and it reveals that people still have hopes of getting employment with the MBA certification (Business week, 2012). One thing that is probably making this care lucrative is that it is applicable in many fields and the graduates cannot lack a place to exercise their skills. Furthermore they have options of venturing into self employment incase this becomes a problem.
Conclusion
From the above report, MBA still stands out as one of the most lucrative careers. With many upcoming industries and companies, there is lots of hope for students pursuing this career. MBA also has many programs in it that make it more applicable in various places. Since the Canadian universities hold worldwide certification, there is a possibility for the graduates to get employment in any part of the world. Through the high figures displayed above, one can predict a great competition in the labor market since most of these graduates will be struggling for the few available jobs.
