Captain Innovation: An Innovative Superhero, Essay Example

To be innovative in any field requires a series of traits that we can ascertain through simple self-reflection. The exercising of designing a superhero that represents or internalizes such innovative possibility would therefore be one whose superpowers are based upon these same traits.

Firstly, there must exist in the mind of the innovator a consciousness of what society needs, insofar as innovations occur within a social context. That is to say, society will ultimately determine the merits of a new approach and thus its validity. In this regard, one can envision our superhero, let us call him Captain Innovation, possessing a deep psychological empathy and insight into the hearts and minds of men, understanding their wants and their desires, carefully discerning the human condition and how the human condition both shapes and relates to its contemporary environment.

Secondly, the superhero in this case must possess a deep understanding of where society itself is heading: what are the transformations of social life that are occurring and how can one adequately provide a service in light of the precise nature of these same transformations? Our superhero Captain Innovation, in this regard, could possess some type of psychic ability, in which he (or she) can anticipate the unfolding of the future and the precise paths human evolution will take.

Lastly, it can be stated that luck is also of the most importance. Many great innovations can be said to have not caught on for whatever reason; often times an innovation may simply be ahead of its time, thus preventing it from taking root in the brain of the common man. The power of luck would therefore make Captain Innovation’s new and radical ideas appear in a proper context, in a proper setting and thus acquire a proper reception.

Whereas such powers ultimately infer an almost omnipotent superhero, it is precisely such traits that are required to be innovative: we can thus understand why in human history there have been so few great innovators.
