Essay

Overview of the Scenario

Tayib is facing some challenges, which range from the need to keep his family’s educational and achievement tradition, the discriminatory activities in his workplace, and the demand in a love relationship. However, this essay explains how these issues interplay, mostly emphasizing on the solutions to the career challenges he faces from the perspective of human resource management.

Current Career Developmental Challenges

Tayib is currently confronting some career challenges which are outlined below:

  • Denied Promotion: The scenario depicts that Tayib is due for promotion, but the management in his company refuses to recognize his contributions so far and subsequently denied him the reward of a promotion.
  • Unfair Treatment: He also suffers from unfair treatment by getting the most difficult projects to be completed within a short deadline. These projects are not awarded to any of his colleagues because it is believed that Tayib is hardworking and could do a great job.
  • Inequality: Despite his efforts at working hard, his colleagues are given rewards and promotions for what they do, but he receives unequal treatment.
  • Channel of Complaints: There is no observable channel of complaints at the workplace where Tayib would have made his grievances about the inequality in the workplace known to the management.

How to Improve Tayib’s Career Prospects

Considering Tayib’s case from the perspective of human resource management, the following procedures have to be taken to address the challenges facing his career development:

  • Motivation: The company Tayib works for needs to motivate him to work harder: and this could be done by rewarding him appropriately with increment in salary and/or promoting him (Armstrong, 2003).
  • Workplace Grievances: Tayib should approach the right person in the organization that would listen to his grievances about unequal treatment between him and his other colleagues. If this step is properly taken, Tayib would be able to know why he has been denied many in the company and make appropriate adjustment (Ewing, 1989).
  • Personal Development: It is also necessary that Tayib develops his personal skills and understanding through studying or otherwise. This would give him an added advantage over other colleagues and he would be given his due respect and recognition at the workplace (Green, 2002; Daft, 2007).
