I/O psychology

Industrial and organizational psychology is a career that contributes highly to any organization’s success. This is through improving the well-being and performance of its people. Individuals who want to pursue any career in this area have to put some efforts in research before graduation in order to make the profession possible to realize. One should be able to employ the scientific principles and research-based designs generated through knowledge learnt. Moreover, one should be able to understand human behavior in the work place, which is an essential requirement for psychologists. This is valuable in understanding the needs of employees whilst creating an ample working environment, which is essential in the realization of optimal employee performance (Harrington, 1992).

The field of I/O psychology presents many unique opportunities in the work place. These include researchers, consultants, and working in an organization as part of the human resource department characterized by coordination of hiring and organizational initiatives department from an evidence-based perspective. One decides on the opportunity to be involved in according to interests and job satisfaction.

Many people wish to achieve the dream of industrial aspect of I/O psychology because it involves the matching individuals to identified job roles often referred to as personal psychology. In addition, people working this area assess the characteristics of employees then match them with the jobs that match them so that they can perform well (Harrington, 1992). This makes most people prefer specializing in industrial psychology rather than organizational psychology. Therefore, I prefer the industrial psychology because it also has many other opportunities especially in an applied aspect. This also enables many people to improve on their experience as psychologists. This leads to career development, which is one of my goals in Psychology.
