Integration – Causal Chains and Strategy, Mod 5 SLP Business

The strategic goals being pursued are:

  • Gaining global recognition as the provider and producer of the best services and products.
  • Serving customers as they continuously innovate products that will allow the company’s brands to be leaders.

The objectives listed above have been designed to support each other and to ultimately achieve these strategic goals. This is demonstrated by the following factors:

  • To achieve the overall strategy, the organization has set smaller strategies which are acting like small steps towards achieving the overall goal. The objectives are also clear to employees so that they can work towards getting to the ultimate goal.
  • It is also important to consider the support these objectives are getting from the management. This is because, if the management gives all the support required then there will be no doubt that it will be easy to accomplish the objectives. This will then help in achieving the strategic goal.

The gaps that can be identified in the above causal chain are;

  • Between waste reduction and increase sales and profit.

The objectives that could be set to solve this gap would be:

  • Cost reduction
  • Increase production
  • Environment conservation

Waste reduction would have a direct implication on reduction of cost and increase in production. For production increase would occur due to extra materials available due to reduction of waste which reduces the cost that could have been incurred in getting more materials. These wastes are harmful to the environment and when reduced, they solve the problem of pollution.

The objectives that do not serve to support the strategic goals are:

  • Improving customer’s lives.

This does not give a firsthand support in achieving the strategic goal because this goal is set to accomplish customer satisfaction hence improving customer’s lives. As it appears, he customer’s life will be improved if the ultimate goal is achieved and having it as an objective is just repetition.
