Causes of Violence, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 356

Essay

Violence is seen on street corners and even the corporate world every single day.  Due to the extreme nature of violence, many social issues arise that can great impact the well-being of people all over the country.  Violence can be defined as any act, both physical and emotional, that attempts to harm the well-being of another person or group of people.

There are multiple causes of violence that vary depending on geographic, economic, and social factors.  Violence can be caused because individuals have a psychological problem that forces them to engage in violent behaviors towards another person.  For instance, my oldest sister moved back in with her boyfriend after they had a previous conflict as a result of her own violence.  She has a very bad attitude and can often speak poorly towards all of her family members, and she even punishes others for her poor feelings about herself through degrading words and actions that lower others’ self-esteem.

On television, violence has become of the most commonly viewed images in the United States.  Violence is often seen in several forms including the constant breaking news stories about adults killing their spouses and family members; thieves attacking innocent human beings in their lust for riches; and even the violence from the War on Terror is viewed every day to remind our nation of the status of violence around the world.  This week, Chris Brown and Rihanna told their story about their domestic violence incident which lets us know that violence does not just happen to regular people, it can happen to celebrities as well.

A source of violence in my neighborhood comes from the constant prejudice that exists within the ethnic conflict between Hispanics and African Americans.  Minor differences and conflicts with diversity force people to engage in violent acts in order to express their discomfort or ill feelings toward another person or group.  People also place blame for their current situation on other groups of individuals instead of taking responsibility for their situation on their own.  Violence exists everywhere, and it is doubtful that violence in any form will cease to be a major concern in our modern world.
