Introduction
Under the impact of new feminist trends, more and more women want to make a good career. The economy is witnessing the growing number of women-entrepreneurs. Many women make excellent career in politics. Sometimes, women are even granted positions in military and aviation, which confirms their unlimited creative potential. Unfortunately, many men still erroneously believe that women cannot be good leaders; nor are the made for a good career. Many others intentionally build obstacles on women’s way to professionalism. Those, who view women as housekeepers should recognize the three essential facts: the female brain contains more nervous cells than that of a male; statistical research shows the growing number of women successful leaders; and women possess unique leadership features, which are not always present in men.
For many years, female roles in society were limited to housekeeping and childbearing, but since the middle of the 20th century, the female vision of self has undergone a profound change, and women currently see themselves as prospective employees and professionals. It should be noted, that where men consider themselves superior to women, a surface discussion of female/ male brain difference can readily refute this assumption. Certainly, the female brain is 10 percent smaller than that of a man, but “women’s brains contain more nerve cells and cellular connections, which allows their smaller, more compact brains to be more efficient and effective” (Gray). Thus, women do not simply have equal chances with men to succeed in career, but they are also deemed to be more effective in their brain activity.
Statistical research confirms the growing number of women in professional science, business, and politics. Beyond the fact that women are more likely than men to attain a bachelor’s degree (33% vs. 26%), and that 60% of master’s degrees are granted to women (Firestone), the 500 Fortune CEOs include 12 wonderfully successful women, who earn good profits, govern large corporations, and display professionalism and excellent leadership styles (Anonymous). Women are conquering business; they are able to balance their personal lives with household obligations and professional growth. Women often possess unique leadership features, which men can rarely use.
Women possess unique leadership qualities: they are better caregivers by nature, which means that women are more likely than men to care for their followers, to listen to their opinions, and to use these in the process of professional growth. Beyond care giving as potentially beneficial for leadership, the current research shows professional women as more persuasive than men. When they combine this persuasiveness with their natural flexibility, openness, and empathy, they become excellent leaders, who can always find agreement on the most problematic issues (Sweeney). That means that women do not simply deserve to be treated like men, but they are likely to make better successes and achievements than male leaders.
Conclusion
Those, who believe that women cannot be good leaders, should know that female brain is more effective than that of a man; that statistics shows the growing number of professional women; and that women possess unique leadership qualities. All these factors confirm that women do not simply deserve to be treated with men on equal terms, but that women can be even more successful leaders than men, due to their natural empathy and care giving qualities, which are combined with persuasiveness, better brain efficiency, and flexibility.
