Part #1
I have chosen the cell wall and the cell membrane for my two cell structures. The cell walls function is to provide protection from physical injuries and skeletal support (together with a cavity in tissue that contains fluid called vacuole). (Cell Structure and Processes) The cell wall structure is a non-living secretion of the cell membrane, composed of roughage, roughage fibrils deposited in alternating layers for strength contains pits (openings) that make it totally watertight. (Cell Structure and Processes)
The cell membrane acts as a boundary layer to contain the cytoplasm (fluid in cell), interlocking surfaces bind cells together selectively permeable to select chemicals that pass in and out of cells. (Cell Structure and Processes) The cell membrane structure is a Typical Structure composed of protein and lipid (fat) molecules. (Cell Structure and Processes) The ability to keep environment stable inside the cell, called Homeostasis, is the maintenance of a active range of conditions inside the organism can function. Temperature, chemical reactions, pH, and energy are major components of this concept. (Cell structure)
Part #2
I have chosen a plant cell for this part of the DB. The two structures I have chosen from the plant cell are the Golgi apparatus and the nucleus. The Golgi apparatus adjusts and packages protein and lipids as well as combining some carbohydrates. It resembles a covered liver. Golgi apparatus consists of a series of cisternaes (incoming and outgoing transport vesicles). Its primary function is to transport chemical substances in the cell. Proteins and lipids are first transported to the Golgi center, modified there, and then transported to various locations of the cell. “The Golgi complex in plant cells produces pectins and other polysaccharides specifically needed by for plant structure and metabolism” (Davidson). The role of this organelle is evident as it enable cell to exist. Without Golgi center, most of the chemical reactions in the cell are impossible.
The Nucleus is the center of all cells, its job is to accommodate chromosomes and it also acts as the controller of the cell. Nucleus consists of outer and inner membranes, nucleoplasm, nucleolus, and chromatin. The nucleus is cell genetic information carrier, which determines whether the organism will be developed into a plant or animal. Nucleus controls such cell activities as growth, synthesis process, metabolism, etc. Nucleolus produces ribosomes, which are used to link sequences of amino acids. As nucleus controls the most important chemical processes within the cell, its role is essential.
