Cells Phone Recycling Project, Research Paper Example

Pages: 2

Words: 550

Research Paper

Our initial step was to determine which project we would pursue. Various proposals were discussed. Ultimately, the group chose to develop a Cells Phone Recycling Project. The logic behind this decision were multiple, although two reasons above all informed our choice. Firstly, the subject matter was of interest to all participants in the project. Secondly, we determined that in so far as there are literally millions of old cell phones which are no longer in use there would be no problems in acquiring the necessary materials to realize the project. Accordingly, our plan entailed collecting these unwanted phones in the form of a donation, after which we intended to repair them. In the case that repair was not an option, the components of the cell phone would also prove of value to the project. We had two options as to what to do with the repaired cell phones. Firstly, they would be given as an act of charity to individuals unable to acquire a cell phone of their own on the basis of, for example, financial reasons. Secondly, the repaired phones would be sold to various shops specializing in cell phone technology, after which the money raised from this sale would be donated to appropriate charities.

The next phase in our project was the formation of a chatting group consisting of all participants in the project using WhatsApp. The chatting group’s intent was to facilitate as well as motivate the exchange of ideas between group members, as well as informing each other of new developments in the project. Following this step, our project manager specified which tasks group members were to perform. These tasks included making contact with those involved with the recycling of cellular phones, the distribution of process and activities and the allocation of resources.

The third phase in our project consisted of a meeting. This is when we agreed upon pursuing the WBS as our project. My task after this stage was to research cell phone recycling projects, collecting valuable information such as facts about similar projects, as well as statistics about related matters. This information was shared with the group.

The fourth phase consisted in the improvement of the WBS. At this time in the project, a greater emphasis was given to the risks involved in the project. In particular, we determined that our estimated budget was problematic, in so far as it was, at this stage, too low so as to successfully realize our project.

Developing the OpenProj program marked the fifth phase of our project. From a personal viewpoint, I felt that this aspect of the project was not particular significant. Nevertheless, after completion of the program, I understood why we had decided to pursue it, since it greatly simplified the entire project.

The sixth phase of the project entailed the organization of our particular tasks in a cohesive format which would be suitable for presentation. During this time, the final paper report summarizing the project shall also be completed.

The entire project was a valuable experience for me personally. I particularly enjoyed the development of the WBS and the OpenProj program, as during these steps I had the impression that I was doing the work of a real project manager. I had been awaiting such an opportunity for some time and my participation in this project realized this ambition.
