Research Paper

Center for Disease Control (CDC) is one of the most broadly used federal health agencies. This company has been around since 1973 and has several obligations for citizens’ safety in the United States. CDC monitors the data coming from many various sources to recognize if there is any outbreak of communicative diseases and try to find out the source. For promoting health, they act in different areas of disease management and research.

Controlling food borne disease involves a coordinated program of risk evaluation and risk management involving Federal, State, and local agencies. CDC’s main role in this coordinated effort is that of characterizing the risk of food borne disease (NASDA, 2008).

The best public health monitoring is the key to recognizing and monitoring the prevalence of food borne disease. CDC, in collaboration with State and local health departments, performs surveillance for food borne disease in several different ways. The objectives of surveillance are to determine the magnitude of the problems posed by certain food borne pathogens, to monitor changes over time in order to guide prevention efforts, and to identify outbreaks so that emergency actions can be taken. CDC uses four important surveillance systems to acquire information on diseases caused by food borne pathogens.

CDC main and important objective is to prepare people for catastrophic situations both natural and manmade by using their publications and online strategies. After 9/11 it became important to teach public how to get ready for terrorist attacks. Additionally, it also educates public in recommended immunizations and declares any outbreaks that are cited in any region of the country (Shays, 1996). The CDC website offers several information for local concerns for instance, vaccinations that are needed for travelling, health information statistics or public health location.
