Challenges in Spontaneous Bearing Down, Essay Example

Essay

For this study, the reviewers identified pooled analyses and whether or not they had a high degree of significance, and those that were relevant were summarized in a table within the article (Brancato, Church, & Stone, 2008). Outcome measures such as spontaneous vaginal births, time spent pushing, use of interventions, and cesarean births were examined in a pooled fashion and summarized accordingly in a table in order to determine their level of significance to the meta-analysis (Brancato et.al, 2008).

The data analysis component of the study was conducted by using a hand search, and this represents a means of understanding the value of specific criteria that examined relevant areas associated with vaginal births in order to determine its relevance and appropriateness for inclusion. The data analysis, therefore, is credible; however, additional studies would require an analysis of criteria that were not examined in the original article, such as method of pushing and infant health post-birth (Brancato et.al, 2008). These factors require further examination in order to determine the overall efficacy of the method in question and its impact on vaginal births (Brancato et.al, 2008).

The meta-analysis technique provided a positive step towards improving the understanding of evidence related to passive descent and its impact on vaginal births; however, it is also important to recognize that other factors must be considered in order to ensure that patients are given the appropriate guidance in order to achieve a smoother delivery (Hanson, 2009). Nonetheless, this information is important because it provides a basis for recommending strategies to improve the birthing process and to incorporate relevant techniques in order to improve the health and wellbeing of mothers and their infants. These factors, with additional evidence, may support additional discussions regarding practice change as necessary to promote greater patient safety and fewer risks.
