In Module One, the three leadership areas that were selected are crucial to developing into a holistic and all-rounded leader. While these areas are important, it is vital that one analyzes how the five practices of exemplary leaders can be applied to enhance and improve each area. This section will take into consideration the practices of challenging the process and enable others to act.

Responsibility

In order to develop and nurture an environment where individuals take responsibility of their actions and duties, three techniques can be employed; (1) Group performance appraisals are essential in analyzing the inherent flaws and weaknesses within a group setting. This is also integral in helping employees perceive the organization as a single unit. (2) Individual performance appraisals stress the need for personal excellence in the execution of tasks. (3) Appraisals of functionality and efficiency of working systems and procedure are critical in measuring the performance fo the company. Such analyses help to pinpoint the sources of problems.

Assertiveness

Assertiveness can be effectively employed in challenging the process by ensuring that all team members have voiced their opinions. Assertiveness is essential in maintain a democratic, yet structured manner of handling problems and generating solutions, this setting standards throughout the department or organization.

Communication

The communication procedures and process within the organization can be challenged through the adoption of a number of strategies. The most integral is the development of an effective communication plan. This will detail the expected avenues that information can be channeled to different functional units within the organization. This can be enhanced with the integration of technology. The use of mobile devices and applications can enhance communication.

Contingency Theory

The contingency theories are integral in challenging the processes within the organization. The Vroom-Yetton-Jago Decision-making Model of Leadership is integral in engaging team members into the decision making process (Northouse, 2013). This enhances the feeling of ownership and responsibility over the actions undertaken by the team. It also enhance communication as members are continually engaged in the decision making process.
