Chapter 5 of the Successful Internship, Essay Example

After reading chapter 5 of the Successful Internship, I realize I have two goals I might need to work on. One goal is to have a positive mindset or attitude towards work. At times my confidence is negatively affected by the thought of not being able to do anything if something goes wrong. Thus, I need to gain higher self-confidence that I can serve the people well whom I work with. I am working on this goal because my attitude toward work will also determine my progress towards my goals. Another goal is improving my communication skills. Any time I speak with my residents, I feel I don’t have much to contribute to the conversation. I need to learn to ask the right questions at the right time and also understand better as to what may and may not be appropriate things to say.

Setting goals is important so we know where we want to go in the future, thus, I have set both professional and personal development goals. I want to enhance my mental and physical strength and also my expertise in my profession. This is important because not only it will create job and advancement opportunities for me but also help me continue to grow by regularly challenging myself.. Many people stop learning when they get comfortable at work but I want to continue to learn by not hesitating to ask questions when I may be struggling at some task.My professional development goalsmay require me to take more eLearning courses and also take advantage of onsite training to expand my knowledge and skills. This will help me stay on track.

I didn’t have these goals before but as I thought, it became clear that these goals are important for me to ensure a successful career path.
