Diabetes is related to childhood obesity

High incidences of diabetes especially T2DM in majority of children has been linked to obesity. A close association of obesity and insulin resistance has been documented. Obesity which is also called overweight is a risk factor of great significance in the proliferation of diabetes among young people.

Teaching the children and parents

Children and parents alike should appreciate the need for Weight loss in addition to activities that are likely to reduce gaining weight as a measure of preventing this situation. One other important area to address is reduction of consumption of types of food with high sugar and fat content. Children should be encouraged to take more fruits as well as vegetables instead.

Exercise programs

An amicable solution to childhood obesity involves physical activity. Sedentary persons are at risk of diabetes and consequently obesity. Physical activities reduce the chances for childhood obesity and diabetes.  Therefore, taking moderate exercise on a daily on is a recommendation to reduce the chances of the incidence. Promotion of high level of physical activities while cutting down of sedentary activities offers a lasting solution and parents should be made aware of this fact. The simplest of the exercises is walking (Daniels, et al. 2002).

Natural holistic medicine

Holistic nutrition coupled with adoption of natural means for weight loss are the best approaches to put children out of this situation. One approach to achieve this is to breast feed the child from infancy which has been documented to offer innumerable health benefits. The benefits include lower cases of admission to hospital, rare cases of rashes, diarrhea, infections of the ear, allergies as well as diabetes. The use of the natural process for prevention promotes the health of the children and the nation at large.
