Essay

Should instructors, departments, or entire schools be able to ban mobile computers and devices in the classroom? Why or why not

Answer: NO

Details of Reasoning:The Internet has become a wide source of information that could be easily accessible to students from all over the world. Its usability to learners and university students is simply undeniable. However, the utilization of Internet-able devices inside the classroom is often considered to be unethical. Notably, students are supposed to give attention to the instructor and the lesson he teaches. Giving the students a chance to have their own computers or mobile phones inside the classroom to access the internet would specifically get their attention away from the class and the lessons being presented to them rendering the said gadgets more of a source of disturbance than a source of learning-help.

The excuse of utilizing internet-enabled programs that are necessary for learning is not a valid case. Relatively, many directly installed applications work better than when they are still to be accessed online. Take for example PDF readers. Online enabled readers often fail when the connection is weak thus making the reading less likely to occur on time. On the other end, if the program is readily available and installed on the device then the reading process would be easier to handle. Perhaps mobiles and computers could be allowed in some cases inside the classrooms however allowing them to be connected to the internet is not an option to take.

If technology really is helpful for learning, then perhaps, it is essential that the instructors and the school administrators see to it that these gadgets would be a source of help not of disturbance to the students. Directly installed programs in the devices they use would be of better help than the once to be accessed online. Hence, if the rule of allowing computers and devices in the classroom has been passed, then it would likely be helpful to make amendments that are necessary to impose that such gadgets cannot be connected to the internet while in class and no excuses are valid enough to be accepted.
