Clinical Practice Implementation, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 397

Essay

The guidelines established by AHRQ provide a basis for conducting clinical practice in a variety of areas where there is significant need. These guidelines are based upon evidence that is readily available, thereby creating best practices within a given clinical area that are conducted in the care and treatment of patients (Hollon et.al, 2014). However, as with any clinical practice protocol, there is always room for improvement, given the issues related to the promotion of cost effective and efficient practice methods (Shekelle et.al, 2012). This process, therefore, must be evaluated on a regular basis and must be flexible in order to accomplish the intended objectives to support patients and their needs as best as possible (Hollon et.al, 2014).

Although AHRQ establishes the general standards for many clinical practice guidelines in the United States, there is always room to improve these approaches when new evidence emerges to create new or updated practice guidelines for patients. Therefore, when considering projects that will benefit a specific group of patients, the potential for improved practice protocols must be evaluated to promote the best possible outcomes for patients (Hollon et.al, 2014). In spite of the acceptance of the AHRQ guidelines, there must be a continuous evaluation of new forms of emerging evidence that may influence how patient care is conducted within the practice environment (Shekelle et.al, 2012). As a result, the AHRQ practice guidelines may require modifications or adjustments as needs change and resource allocation permits, thereby creating an environment in which patient care and treatment will likely have a lasting impact on patient care quality within the chosen practice setting for a given population (Hollon et.al, 2014). It is believed that although AHRQ establishes a precedent for clinical practice guidelines, the potential exists to identify new forms of evidence to promote change and to modify these guidelines on an as-needed basis in order to support the designated patient population as best as possible.
