CNN Is Better Than Other News Channels, Essay Example

Millions of people every day switch on their TV’s to watch news, listen to journalists and enjoy TV-shows. Some of these watchers mindlessly switch channels in order to find something interesting, but most of them search adamantly for their favorite presenters and news. One of the most popular channels nowadays is CNN. Its presenters are familiar to millions of people, its news become a starting point for conversations. But why does it happen?

First of all, this news channel corresponds to the main principle of delivering the news. It covers all important events in a due time, covering most important features. What’s more important, there are presenters with different points of view. They don’t allow the channel to be one-sided.

Absence of bias in hews is an important and sometimes key element of news. It is really hard to present things how they happened and not include your own point of view. As far as possible, CNN news adhere to this principle and deliver unbiased news. Of course, for those who care about every single politically oriented word there are no fair news and all presenters are divided by two groups – good ones and bad ones. But for a casual viewer what happens is really important.

One thing that matters for many viewers is pleasant design. In my opinion, CNN has rather reasonable design. Its captures do not interfere with watching, though they certainly attract attention. It is pleasant and understandable, and its logo is also plausible.

In order to avoid unnecessary accusations, I do not mention other news channels. But there are some facts that should be compared to other company’s data.

One of very important points is that CNN is an old company and has its traditions, as well as highly developed network of journalists. For news watchers it looks beneficially when journalist that is talking about Australia actually is in Australia, or one talking about Iraq has been there several minutes ago. It impresses, and in convinces. CNN observes traditions and maybe it is one of the most important things about it.

Long history gives CNN one more advantage. In the modern world of fierce competition news are kinds of product. Those who have more developed infrastructure have more news, and they are trustworthy. CNN has long history, many journalists all over the world. It is said that there are more journalists working for CNN all over the world than for the three other leading news channels. Maybe somebody feels no difference between good journalist’s works and badly presented second-hand news. But in general it does matter for the channel watchers. People do value good news that is presented by onlookers and authors of the features.

Is CNN really a good channel is a personal opinion of every person. I don’t intend to be biased, as CNN may have shortcomings, as well as anything in this world. But for me it is a good, trustworthy and reliable source of fresh and qualitative information.

“A Class Divided”: The Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes Experiment

The experiment of dividing the class by two groups and treating them separately affected students’ behaviors and their attitudes to their mates. “Inferior” students showed lower performance and behaved themselves like “losers”. “Better students” behaved themselves as if they were really better, treated inferior students with disdain and looked down on them. The next day they traded places and showed behavioral patterns that were characteristic to their “group”.

We are not trained to be prejudiced or unfair. Even children do show awareness of biased (say, racist) behavioral patterns. It happens because of constant process of perception of social reality, and in such cases we never think of what we are doing and why. In fact, the question of inborn or taught prejudice is still open, and psychologists still argue about this issue.

I think that we can be colorblind when it comes to discrimination of any kind. The key element of colorblind behavior is constant thinking and analysis of what’s happening and why we treat people in some way or other. Constant thinking is hard, but in the long run it may end in tolerant and reasonable behavior. However, for vast majority of people there are many things to care about except their discrimination and prejudice. But it’s worth trying, I think.

In the prayer above there are fair words that reflect the state of experiment participants. They all felt as if they had been on other’s people’s places and felt their feelings. It is very important for children to understand that nothing can come without consequences, and their behavior affects other people. This experiment made young children realize this fact and feel themselves a big family in the long run. The connection between this fact and the prayer is undeniable.

Discrimination and segregation in many forms are part and parcel of our lives. Rare are people who judge people by their deeds and pay no attention to race, social status, etc. I gathered that we all must respect other people’s feelings and try to be objective and fair when it comes to social interaction.
