Collaborative healthcare environments that are based on cooperation and innovative strategic planning  ultimately dictates effective coalition building when it comes to healthcare policy.The requisite steps needed to bolster the future of nursing practice environments, especially in obstetrics,  calls for nurses to be proactive and take the initiative in order to lead efforts vis-a-vis coalitions to effectively reform the delivery of healthcare services and systems by engaging in the collaborative improvement of various arenas in the nursing profession, such as n payment models that impact the delivery of nursing care.  Nursing in the twenty-first century will be shaped and governed by a variety of factors that include developing and implementing innovative yet effective patient-centered care paradigms and also cultivating and facilitating a nursing practice environment that is able to provide  entrepreneurial opportunities for nurses to begin to implement these new and innovative programs that retain the capacity to enhance human health a promote better healthcare policy. Looking at nursing collaboration with midwives within the field of obstetrics highlights the currency of coalition building in nursing practices.

Collaborative practices centered on women are designed to encourage the active participation of various medical disciplines in order to provide the highest quality of reproductive healthcare. Collaboration vis-a-vis coalition building amplifies the values and goals for women and their respective families; has mechanisms for ongoing communication among caregivers, enhances the participation of caregivers in the decision-making process within clinical settings, and cultivates admiration for the contributions that have come from other disciplines (MacDonald et al., 2014).  Such an interest in providing healthcare vis-a-vis collaboration as been embraced as a means to address burgeoning diversity and complexity of patient needs for administrators, clinicians, decision-makers, and politicians alike.
