Colin Luther Powell, Essay Example

Essay

In the recent project, my role was to review the leadership development of Colin L Powell from the biographical perspective. I have seen that he was given a clear direction in life by the military when he first joined. I also found that he was a person who pushed himself further every time through education and he completed an MBA degree after he served as an Army Official.

Colin L Powell, through his biography, appears to me as a person with great integrity. He did not communicate his political views at any time; for him serving his country was the most important task; no matter which party was leading the United States. From a geology college graduate, he became an expert who advised several U.S. presidents on military strategies and decisions. He did not only become the first colored Secretary of State, but also supported the security of his country. In 1991, he created a foundation to help disadvantaged children to build a better country. Overall, my impression of Colin L Powell through his background and life story is that he is a person with a clear vision and mission to serve his county to his best abilities. I am interested to find out more about him through my team members’ research.

I think that the best approach to share the knowledge and information collected is to  use  the initial PowerPoint presentation George sent on Powell’s lessons in leadership as an activity. George was going to narrow it down to a few lessons and we can use the presentations as a matching exercise. We can provide the class with a list of the quotes at the top of the slides which would create the topic of the  “lessons”. Then we can cut and hand out the descriptions (the bottom part of the slides explaining the lesson) separately to the class. We could create groups to work together on figuring out the description that corresponds to the correct lesson. Each group can read the description and lesson to the rest of the class, adding more context to the quotes and topic.
