Commitment to Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 308

Essay

It is well recognized that graduate study is a rigorous and time consuming commitment.  This requiring a commitment of around 40 hours per week.  My approach to this will be one of careful planning and this will identify the study activities and timescales required in order to be plotted into my diary / calendar.  In addition, I will also build in those time slots for both social and exercise requirements in order to obtain a well-balanced study plan.  I will also allow for contingency slots in the events that a particular study activity gets missed or requires rescheduling.

From a personal perspective I recently received my MSN and recognised the important need of achieving work / life balance in order to accommodate both the needs of work, family and academic studies. I have been lucky enough to have encouraging and strong support from both my husband and family and this has helped my motivation in terms of commitment and planning my graduate study program.  One skill I have developed very well is that of time management and planning skills.  The organization I work for is highly supportive of these goals and is flexible in allowing me to schedule changes in order to meet the requirements of my study program.

The technology is also an important assist in this approach.  The integration of applications like Microsoft Office allows integration to e-mail, diary management and control of calendars.  This allows for an instant update of my diary and ease of flexibility in scheduling changes or appointment updates.  The flexibility of mobile computing means that this service is available to me 24/7 and that facilitates an ordered control over my study timetable and program whilst allowing the flexibility to schedule in other social needs and work requirements. Above all I have the determination and capacity to ensure the planning is successful and consistent.
