What is the source of the conflict?

In modern situations, especially, in clinical nursing practice, the source of conflict emerges from misunderstanding messages being communicated. After these messages have been transmitted and an inappropriate response follows a blame game then ensues because the message transmitter expects a desired response, which was not accomplished as in the case of Stacy and the ED transfer (Sallie, 2014).

What conflict resolution strategies should Stacy use to respond to the accusations being made by the ED charge nurse and to help resolve the conflict?

Clarification is vital and the first step in conflict resolution. Refraining from engaging in an argument is the next important strategy, and thirdly listening to what either side has to say about the issue/s to identify the aspects of misunderstanding is essential. These are some steps Stacy can take in resolving the situation. Responding to the accusations is pointless. However, responding to the communication discrepancies shows maturity(Cherry & Jacob, 2014).

What positive communication techniques could haveprevented the situation form occurring?

First, Stacy should have verified with the transferring nurse time of arrival. This was not done.Also, there were obvious distinct lapses in the communication because no feedback ensured that messages were received accurately. Hence, the mix up and fury of the assigned nurse.

What strategies skills can Stacy implement to increase communication skills of her staff

Communication strategies involve practicing a chain of command. This includes a sender (of message); a method; receiver and feedback. Effectiveness of the message depends on the method applied. Methods have to be culturally compatible. For example, the sender must consider the receiver’s ability to perceive the language communicated; preconceptions; the precipitating events; the context in which the message is sent; the receiver’s past experiences with the content; the environment and transmission difficulties. In reviewing these conditions Stacy could design an effective communication skills’ plan (Cherry & Jacob, 2014).
