Essay

To give a fair critique on my informative speech, it is wise for me to be aware of the primary functions of an informative speech, and how it affected the audience. Looking at the video there are things that I did well, and things that can be improved and change for the next speech. The positive things about the speech were, my knowledge of the subject.I knew what I wanted to convey, and I clearly stated and explained the thesis. Each of the three sub points had enough significant details that linked back to the main topic, so the audience was able to clearly understand. Another positive about my speech was that it was well organized, the flow of the speech was well paced as I talked. So the speech did not feel rushed.

The negatives however as well as my speech flowed and its goodorganization, I could have done better with the opening line. The attention getter needs to actively grab the audience, and I felt that is where I lacked. Another aspect was that I felt that I relied on my notes throughout the speech. At certain points,I got lost and had to look to my notes to keep up with the flow. Lastly is that I did not have enough eye contact with the audience, I fidgeted, I did not gesture freely, or move around the room. In the conclusion, I did not end with a memorable device or advise the audience that the speech was ending.

There are several aspects that I can improve on which include, using more vocal variety and tone in my speech. While the delivery was good, it could have been better. Practice makes for a better delivery as I will continue to practice in front of the mirror and my friends for constructive feedback. I need to maintain appropriate eye contract throughout the speech, and actually give the speech extemporaneously, without reading from my notes. When making my points, link back to the thesis, I need to clearly cite the credible sources, and avoid hesitations so that the audience is not distracted. In my conclusion tell the audience the speech is concluding, remind the audience of the purpose of the speech, summarize my thesis, and clinched the speech with a memorable device.
