Research Paper

It is difficult to imagine American Dream without home ownership. Even the U.S. Government acknowledges the right to home ownership that is why it created two public agencies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to provide low-cost loans to Americans towards home ownership (Alford). To most of us, becoming a homeowner is one of the most beautiful experiences in life.

The actual process of home ownership starts quite earlier than the actual purchase of the house. Once I set the goal to own a home as soon as possible, many positive changes occurred with me such as completing college at all cost and adopting financial discipline as well as strong work ethics. I also became more optimistic about future. Saving for home also meant I started preparing for retirement life earlier than my peers.

The actual phase of becoming a home owner cannot be described in words. Achieving the goal of purchasing a home also grew my confidence that I can set and achieve difficult goals. The actual purchase of a house also encouraged me to start a family so that the home looks even more beautiful.

The positive impact of home ownership continues to this day. My social image and perceptions among my friends and family members has improved because I am seen as a mature, responsible, and focused individual. My standard of living has also improved because not only I live in a bigger and better place than the previously rented apartment but also have more creative freedom to decorate the house. Saving for home has also helped me develop financial discipline and now I find it easy to save money.

The entire process of becoming a homeowner has taught me several lessons. First of all, big goals require dedication and discipline because the journey is a marathon and not sprint. But all the hard work is worth it due to the rewards waiting for us as I found out after purchasing my house. But the best thing is that home is not a luxury spending but instead a sound investment in the future because home prices usually appreciate.
