Communication Strategies

Communication skills are the essential elements of a productive workplace because they allow employees to work cohesively. Communication strategies need to be emulated in a workplace to ensure that every employee is conversant with ethical issues about communication. Major communication concerns in my workplace are based on the language skills and the way one expresses the message. Communication is a skill that must be learned and practiced frequently to improve one’s ability to pass messages effectively.

Day 1: Clarity and Conciseness

This day shall focus on how to organize the thoughts we may need to speak out. This aspect demands that the speaker if fully equipped with the information content that she/he wants to pass to the colleges. The theme of the message should come out clearly so as the recipients can know the direction of the information. By the end of the first day, all the workers are expected to know how to organize their points while speaking.

Day 2: How to Apply Body Language

While giving information, it is usually advisable to express yourself in a lively manner that keeps the attention of the listener. The activity on this day will emphasize on facial expressions, posture and eye movements while communicating. All the workers will train on how to apply these skills in their addresses.

Day 3: Identifying the Audience

The workers will train on how to give information in relation to the audience’s age, culture, beliefs and the way his/her audience observes issues in the company. This makes communication style to suit the audience, thus, effective in its nature.

Day 4: Dealing with Questions

This lesson will be meant to teach the workers on how to avoid overreactions to a hostile listener in the case they are challenged. The expectation of this lesson is to ensure that the speaker knows how to calm the listeners without exhibiting emotions even though the audience might be so embarrassing.

Day 5: Learn How to Listen

It is important that the workers learn how to listen what their college is saying carefully before interrupting the conversation. This ensures that the employees get to understand each other’s suggestions.

Day 6: How to be Free

This day is aimed at encouraging interactions amongst employees to ensure that they know each other well and put communication skills into practice. This activity also breaks tension amongst them and make them talk freely, thus improving on communication skills.

Day 7: Conduct a Trial Test

To finalize the training, an evaluation about the training is to be done and the aspects so discussed be put into practice. Each employee shall be given time to address the rest in a move to check whether they can apply the skills.

In the evaluation of the activity, some aspects of communication were more effective than others. The theme of the message and the body language seemed to overdo the other aspects in passing the message. The other skills did not show out clearly during the test as they depended on one’s personality. It was difficult for the employees to select the audience and this particular aspect could not work since the audience was made up of the workers themselves. The evaluation was able to establish that individuals have varying communication abilities but the abilities can be improved through proper coaching. One would however be disappointed by the fact that some workers do not have courage to make formal instructions or communicate to the rest probably their inner personal being is naturally made that way. This problem could not be solved immediately but the training formed the platform for such workers to practice and improve on their communication skills slowly. Communication is subject to change and improvement. Every working environment needs to establish communication strategies to enhance the relationship amongst the workers themselves and their seniors.
