Research Paper

Abstract

MRSA contains bacteria known as the Staphylococcus aureus and are found in the nose of three individuals out of the twenty people. Its infections are always challenging to the pediatric, adolescent patients, adults and the neonatal. It has been noted that MRSA incidence have risen highly over the past decades (Andersen, et al, 18-20). The statistics indicates that 51% of the infected are hospitalized while 49% are always found in the intensive care units.

Evidence Based Practice Research on Community Acquired MRSA

In the United States of America the researchers have identified that in 2005, 1 person out of 300 residents suffered the infection of MRSA, while 86% of the infection occurred outside the settings of the health care. The researchers have also noted that within the same year that the infection had an average of three times of the normal hospital stay (13.4 vs. 5.6 days). This incurs three times of the total cost ($49,835 vs. $15,136). The state also experienced five times of the death of in- hospital (12.3% vs. 3.4%) than the patients without MRSA infections (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2006).

Conclusion

MRSA is particularly a demanding pathogen of a nosocomial within the Intensive Care Units of the neotal. The outbreaks of the infection within the Intensive Care Unit can take long to heal, therefore difficult to control. Immediately the outbreak has emerged, usual control measures of infection may not be enough to stop the progress of transmission. This indicates that authoritarian cohorting of personnel and infant with or with no use of mupirocin may be required to enclose these outbreaks (Andersen, et al, 18-20). Lastly, to keep away from MRSA infections, one need to keep the hands clean by washing them using the soap, clean any cut on the body using the soap, avoid any contact with the individuals having the cuts on their bodies and avoiding sharing things like the razors and towels.
