Company Departmental Management, Research Paper Example

Pages: 6

Words: 1538

Research Paper

After observing the ways in which various departments are being managed in our company, I, together with my team discovered that many problems are arising due to lack of enough departmental managers (Dijkzeul 1997). If our organization is to achieve its goals and grow in the future, effective management of all the departments is necessary. In order to address the problem, we have formed a team to discuss and come up with solutions. We have discovered that our company has been remarkably slow in growth and development. At first we tried to do research in order to know why the company has not been able to reach its targets as earlier predicted.

When the problem persisted, we had to do researches again in order to identify the real problem and its origin. Our analysis was done from one department to another. Through this research, we discovered that some of the departments were moving on well and, in fact, they were far much ahead of others (Igbal, 2011). After another research to find out why some of our departments were doing well while others were not, we decided to investigate and compare them all again. This time we discovered that those departments, which were not directly managed by anyone and others but were supervised by acting managers were the ones which were not performing. Since then, we have had a few meetings and have come up with a plan to change the situation in order to save the company situation.

Before our investigation, the company was on many occasions, unable to achieve its targets in terms of profits, for many months and that was why we thought that there must be a problem (Dijkzeul 1997). Departmental management, as we came to discover is a very fundamental aspect. The sales departments for instance, in our company are a very significant section in our since it is the department that markets our products. If the company cannot sell their products, then there is no need to have the company because it is through the sales and marketing department that any company markets and sells products in order to earn. Our sales and marketing department is very crucial as it is one of the departments, which do not have a manager/supervisor. This has undoubtedly caused the company to lose a great deal.

We will also need to know whether the CEO has plans for further international extensions and addition of more well trained staff, introduction of extra and attractive services. Whether the company is planning to train staff so that they can offer excellent services, including customer care and available marketing services which are affordable for every type of clients, will also be my concern. For this plan to be successful, the management has to take the responsibility in organizing the expansion of the management from moving and settling the business abroad and taking care of recruitment of new employers, apart from transferring the local ones.

Our business will have to go with the changes, like for example legal issues and policies of other countries such as adapting to the government regulations of other countries. We should also be ready for any other changes that may force it to adapt several new rules in the respective country. Our company, unlike a manufacture deals with mainly services, while manufactures deal with tangible goods as well as services. The company does not get so affected by the environmental features because everything that a customer may need is all in one place, while the manufacture has to transport goods to and from different areas.

At the same time, this issue is something which is affecting over ninety percent of the company staff, and it is a problem within the department where the company products are marketed (Varajao & Eduardo, 2010). Since the marketing department is the section in which the company earns its income, then the issue is a crucial one and needs to be addressed urgently.

Before we come up with how to address the problem, we need to know a few things such as

  • How serious it is
  • Who it is affecting
  • What exactly are the problems caucused by the issue
  • When it started to happen and affect the company
  • Why we must address it.

According research, it is evident that these principles aid an organization to become competitive while meeting the customer’s needs and maintaining high customer focus over time. It is also clear that understanding these aspects helps people in an organization develop new attitudes towards the working environment.. When people are educated, they have that tendency of self improvement, which works well with the total quality plans. Finally, when people are made to feel secure then efficiency will definitely be the order of the day, principle eight.

The problem is affecting the entire company in terms of financial issues, because the company’s income and profits have gone down a great deal. The fact that the company is not selling as it ought to, means the income coming in is very low. Low company income will automatically mean that the company is becoming financially unstable and cannot achieve its goals. Without money and lack of enough income in such a company, will cause problems such as:

  • Low salaries for workers
  • Slow salary increments
  • Employees may have to be reduced in numbers so that the company can afford to pay them.

To avoid all these problems we need, as a team, to focus on the problem of management (Varajao & Eduardo, 2010). The company must efficiently recruit new managers from within the company and also outside, and managers who are to be employed must be professionals in order to speed up the healing of the company. By doing this, all the departments will be able to work efficiently as it will be necessary in order to help the departments to catch up with the rest. All the staff must work under supervision if the company has to achieve its goals. Without anyone to control the staff, nothing will be done efficiently and if there is no seriousness in the company, an extremely short time is enough to have the company fall down.

It is necessary that the problem is addressed immediately in, as much, as it will need a few tools such as it may take time (Igbal, 2011). If the problem is left to stay longer, the company might experience more serious effects.’ However, where needed in order to solve this problem can be listed as follows:

  • Identify who is and who is affected by the problem
  • Know how much money will be required to solve the problem
  • How much time it will take to address the issue
  • How able is the company and positive is the company in improving the situation
  • What are the expected impacts (Dijkzeul 1997)
  • How bad is the problem

Before we start solving the problem, we will first of all need to know that the requirements for accomplishing this goal may also be limited (Peng, 2011). Therefore, what we need to do is to compare and list the steps we are going to take according to which is the most influential and which one is less prominent. This means that as a team we must establish the priorities and consider them first, and then we can start addressing the issue.

Once we have come up with all the above data including identification of the problem, and investigation, then we investigate the causes and all the areas affected. We will, therefore, be able to calculate and find out how much will be needed in terms of funds. We will also have known how many people among the affected ones will benefit from the plan and how the company will also gain from the plan (Igbal, 2011). Once we have data of all these factors, we shall then be able to easily start working on the problem. I am sure this is the best way we can start tackling the problem and even if we are not going to get a hundred percent of the expected success, at least we will be able to solve a bigger part of this problem. With a clear understanding of the problem and through thorough investigations, we are determined that our strategy will help a great deal in ending the problem.

Other feasible alternative strategies to the company may include: manufacturing own products and avoiding copying from other manufacturers particularly in china. Expanding its capacity to produce, reducing product and service costs. The present business world appreciates unique products and services. If the company’s products are similar to those of other companies then clients might just lose their trust and loyalty in this particular business. The advantage that the company will gain from producing their own unique products is that it will attract a large market. Clients will be lured towards trying out new things enabling the company to stand out from the crowd.
