Introduction
This research shall evaluate on comparison of incidences of New Onset Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Obese Adolescent Boys versus those who are not Obese. According to Dolan, Et al. (2000) the research was done on seventy Adolescent Boys a follow up was also done after 24 months. The clinical question being researched on is based on PICO (Gitelman & Sapru, 2005). “P” stands for presenting issues and in relation to the research the issue is about comparison of obese and non obese Adolescent Boys, the issues being presented on the research is on if the boys are having any incidences of Diabetic Ketoacidosis. “K” also represents patient’s population and in the case of this research the population used in the study is 70 Adolescent. These are the sample size of those who are scrutinized to determine if there are any new onsets of Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Its other meaning is patients, and this are actually the one who form the entire population which the study is being carried on and a sample of 70 patients will be obtained from.
While “I” stands for the intervention under considerations as per the research the intervention is about if there is any New Onset Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Obese Adolescent Boys as compared to those who are not obese. The intervention of the research is to ascertain if there is any New Onset of Ketoacidosis if at all there is New Onset then appropriate measures would be taken into considerations. “C” stand for comparison while the research question under review has the aspect of comparison. It is comparing the Obese Adolescent Boys versus those who are not Obese. Such comparison is clear as it has the aspect of the determining factor which is whether one is obese or not obese.
Research Methodology
The research methodology which was used on this research is both qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research was used to obtain an in depth understanding of human behavior and the reasons which govern such behaviors. The method was used to investigating why and how the cases of New Onset Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Obese Adolescent Boys is being influenced and it does not just dwell on when it did occur, what would have been the course and when it did occur. It also emphasized on having a smaller sample which is selected in a manner which is not biased rather than deal with a large sample of data.
The research also uses quantitative research which has enabled it use arithmetic data collection and analysis and provides a fair presentation of the qualitative research being done and arithmetic evaluation of the situation under review.
The number of subjects which were being reviewed by the research is mainly categorized in to two distinct subjects those the boys who are obese verses those who are not obese. They have further being divided on Incidences of New Onset Diabetic Ketoacidosis these subjects are being studied in the research through different data collection methods. The sample size which was used had 70 patients and the selection of 70 patients was done using random sampling from the boys being studied. The data was collected by use of questionnaires which was used to get personal data while medical records were retrieved from their medical records.
Data collection from already documented results from finding which has been done already saved on time spent on data collection as it only involves analysis of data. However, the data has the disadvantages of ascertaining whether it is authentic, therefore the data being used if it is not accurate such negative incidences will also be reflected in the research being done.
Outcome of the Research
There are three main significance which emerged with the study, one it proved that obese which is ketosis resistant would deteriorate with time due to change of state of normal glucose or instances of increased insulin which will eventually culminate to be ketoacidosis. This are instances which the obese boys has high glucose levels that are in turn complicate ketoacidosis in the patients affected therefore resulting to hyperosmolarity obesity which adds risk on severe obese diabetics.
Secondly it also revealed that after prolonged obesity and hyperinsulinemia is caused by large with gains which impose an excessive challenge to the competence functions of the cells (Genuth, 2003). Such instances in the obese boys increase acute deficiency of insulin which eventually leads to diabetic ketoacidosis in obese boys. Thirdly the research revealed that severe obese in boys causes delay in therapy a factor which adds to coexisting of ketoacidosis and hyperosomolarity which causes high mortality rate in the patients.
Study Application and Conclusions
The study have concludes that there are New Onset Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Obese Adolescent Boys than those who are obese. This is mainly contributed to increased deficiency of insulin and lack of adequate therapy to treat the boys. According to Winocour, Et al. (2006) it has been recommended that for the cases of Ketoacidosis to be reduced to manageable levels there is need to control obese on boys and ensures that the condition of obesity does not prolong for long. Control of such cases will eventually reduce on cases of mortality rate or deterioration of health conditions of the boys.
