Comparison and Contrast Peer Revision Worksheet, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 289

Essay

The thesis of this essay is that there are similarities and differences between the stories “Rice” and “Tortillas”. Even though the theme of these two essays are about different foods, the authors use these items to represent their childhood and the personal meaning that they bring. No improvements are needed, as this phrasing allows there to be room for a deeper analysis of these themes to the author.

There is a clear comparison and contrast between the authors’ foods of choice and their pastimes. For both authors, the foods bring up memories of their childhood, which include poking holes into the tortilla to use as a mask and eating rice with family at celebrations.

The body paragraphs are well developed and each is tied in to the thesis. The opening of the paragraph explains briefly how the paragraph relates to the thesis statement, and examples are provided that follow it. The end of the paragraph summarizes the points that are made and it is used to introduce the following paragraph.

One of the main points that was clear in this essay is how these foods continued to be important to the authors into their adulthood. The examples used to back up this claim were particularly convincing.

It may be helpful to learn how the authors were introduced to their favorite foods, as this will provide a greater extent of context for understanding why they feel that their culture and lifestyle is deeply associated with these foods.

Although the introduction is effective, the last paragraph could tie the points of the essay back to the thesis statement more efficiently. It may be beneficial for the last paragraph to be concise so the reader can keep track of the points that were made during the essay.
