The setting and the plot of the movie and the book are very comparable. Many things were borrowed from the book, but a lot was also changed. The plot of the book was very closely followed by the movie, and the book’s setting was portrayed very well. There was a great deal of borrowing from the dialogue of the book, and the dialogue was spoken exactly as it appeared in the book. The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrman was a presentation of a completely diverse type of experience. It even has a storyteller, Nick Carraway, writing down his experiences as he looks back at his West Egg summer, and some text from the novel is, in fact, shown hovering across the screen in the event of the movie’s transitions to the next scene from a previous scene. Both in the novel and the movie, Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan were introduced again through Nick. Both went to a tea party at the house of Nick and that reunion led to their love being rekindled. Jordan Baker was asked by Gatsby to suggest the tea party to Nick. After extending the invitation to Daisy, the differences start. In the film, Gatsby is by now waiting within the house of Nick when Daisy arrives. However, in the novel Gatsby arrives later. From this instance, Gatsby and Daisy started seeing each other. In the novel, there was no description of all the encounters, but there was an implication of the massive amount of time that Gatsby and Daisy spent together.

There were several scenes in the movie showing Daisy and Nick taking tea together, visiting the park together and visiting the town together. There was a description of the secret relationship in both the movie and the novel, but the movie version elaborated it more. A final diversity can be found in The Great Gatsby’s final incidents. The story ends tragically with some of the main characters dying. The first death that happens is the death of Myrtle Wilson, the mistress of Tom Buchanan, who was, unfortunately, murdered. The only thing that is shown in the movie is people crowding around the dead body of Myrtle, without showing how the accident occurred. The novel does not describe the death of Gatsby; it is hardly mentioned that he was found in a pool with floating blood around him rather than being found in the terrace. The Great Gatsby’s 1974 version closely followed the book. Minor parts were changed primarily for the reason that only events from \Nick Carraway’s viewpoint were included in the novel.

Therefore, The Great Gatsby Movie was comparable, but not very comparable to The Great Gatsby novel. The idea of having the story narrated by Nick and him being shown writing down the novel’s text was really neat. This movie remained true to the basic tale, with some narrative and dialogue obtained directly from the novel. The elements of the novel were taken by the filmmakers and their intensity ratcheted up, not making changes to the basics of the tale, but doing an addition of more drama and more edge to some elements of the story.
